In the future, we will have a quick blurb from each the grant project areas to include: inventory, gravel bed, resource center and further
into the
summer, energy & housing audit. Each area will describe what's new, interesting, things happening in communities and little
reminders. We
hope this will be helpful in keeping all of you up to date with our busy
body
work. |

Update #17 August 9th- 31st EAB RR Communities, Inventory UpdateWe
have made it through just about every community this month with our
monthly visits. Very nice job by all! Keep up the good work, there is
less than 2 months to go and then we will be done. If you
happened to miss a community meeting, please refer to the website and
your community folder. All meeting notes will be on-line by the end of
the week. Gravel Bed UpdateWe are in the process of
setting dates for pulling the gravel bed trees in each community and for
those western groups, finishing gravel bed construction. This aspect of
the project will continue throughout next summer until plant out next
fall. Please keep sending in your weekly reports and don't forget to check on your stock during these extremely hot days. U of M Team UpdateThe
U of M team will start classes this next week on the 7th. During these
first two weeks of classes we may not be as quick to respond to emails
and phone calls as we all settle into our new class schedules, please be
patient as we will be sure to get back to you within a day. September
will also see the addition of one more graduate student to the EAB RR
project. Philip Potyondy will be a new member to the team and visiting
communities throughout September with the rest of the group. We are
excited that he will be here to help us as we begin to work on the
energy audit portion of this project. Monthly meetings will go out in the next update and will continue to be posted on the website: www.mntreesource.comCheers, The Project Team |

Bi-Weekly Update #16 August 2nd - 6th EAB RR Communities, Inventory
UpdateAs always be sure to check the list of "DO NOT ENTER"
addresses, which can be found under your specific community folder at
the Project Website. August is here and the community
inventories are getting started, with some of the communities making
great progress. Questions regarding the inventories have come up during
the monthly meeting, which is great, the more people that can make it
to the monthly meetings to learn from other peoples questions the
better. Gravel Bed InformationPlease remember to fill
out your weekly assessment form if you have an on-site gravel bed. (This
is one of those re-occurring reminders) New Community

would like to welcome Crookston as our newest community. Crookston is
our community in the northeastern region of Minnesota. Their
pre-inventory sample has been completed, and we have been busy setting
up their inventory blocks. Website

to navigate. Upcoming Monthly MeetingsRochester-August

Bi-Weekly Update #15 July 12 th -
16 thEAB RR Communities, A few
comments...
- Please remember to have your inventory volunteers keep track of their hours.
This will be VERY important when we need to report our data back to the
grant agency.
- If you have not made arrangements for the planting of your gravel bed stock
(purchased or grow on site) with us please contact Andi immediately. Remember
that all stock needs to recorded, assessed and tracked during plant out. One of
the team members will be coming to the community to assist with plant out of
gravel bed stock.
- If you are having difficultly with scheduling and organizing your volunteer
group, please contact us, we may be able to help find a solution to this
problem.
Inventory UpdateAgain we would like to remind
you that all "DO NOT ENTER" addresses can be found under your specific community
folder at the Project Website. Hibbing, Rochester,
Hutchinson and Hendricks are cleared for entry onto residential property. Please
remember to knock before inventorying a property and don't forget to leave one
of those fabulous door hangers. We hope that through doing this you may find
some other excited volunteers or supportive community members. Gravel
Bed InformationPlease remember to fill out your weekly assessment form
if you have an on-site gravel bed. Cheers, The Project

Weekly Update #14 June 28th- July 9th EAB RR
Communities, Inventory UpdatesWe have started to receive
responses from residents and property owners who would like us to NOT enter
their property for the inventory. The lists are updated as we receive the
requests. These lists are kept on the website under each community page http://www.mntreesource.com/communities. We are also creating
lists of letters that have been returned, those lists can also be found under
the community web pages. The following communities have passed the 3
week response period for non-access notification from private property
residents, Rochester and Hibbing. Please refrain from entering private property
until your community has cleared the 3 week response period. Website
InformationJust a reminder to everyone that there is community specific
information on the website under the link for your community http://www.mntreesource.com/communities. We have also
completed the Tree Defect Cards http://www.mntreesource.com/communities/treedefects.
Gravel BedsWe have installed moisture and temperature sensors
in Rochester, Hutchinson, Hibbing and at the TRE nursery. These sensors were not
originally budgeted for in the grant and we were very pleased to obtain some
extra funding to cover this research. Selected beds will have the temperature
sensors running all year round for measurements at gravel bed surface, root zone
(6") and below root zone (12"- 14"). Moisture sensors will run throughout the
rest of the summer to better understand the retained moisture for each type of
irrigation system and area. Monthly Inventory Team
MeetingsBelow are the meetings scheduled for the week of July 12th.
Please see website for detailed information (calendar at the bottom of the
homepage). Tuesday, July 13th - Hibbing Wednesday, July 14th -

Weekly Update #13 June 21st- 25th
EAB RR
Communities,
Kick-Off Inventory Events Over the last few weeks
we have had very successful inventory kick-offs in Rochester, Hutchinson,
Hibbing, and Hendricks. Thanks to everyone involved for taking part and making
the events enjoyable and successful. We have received some clarification emails
and phone calls regarding the material we provided, so please feel free to
continue to call or email if there are more questions or
comments.
Inventory Maps If you have any questions, comments
or ideas on how to improve your community's inventory maps that you received
from the Project Team, please send them to Nick at
perki171@umn.edu.
Inventory Excel Spreadsheet We have uploaded
the excel spreadsheet onto the website. You can find the file under your
community folder -> file "link" -> excel spreadsheet. This will be
labeled with either DBH or circumference depending upon which method your
community is using. As the data entry personal are identified, please have them
email Andi (dier0069@umn.edu) for further information regarding the file. Thank
you again for you patience with us regarding this matter.
Addresses If your community has still not sent the Project
Team an address list of the private properties that will be inventoried, please
make this a priority. The sooner we have the addresses, the sooner your
community volunteers can begin inventorying private
property.

Weekly Update #12 June 1st-
4th
EAB RR Communities,
Gravel Bed
Update Please remember to send in your installation form today,
FRIDAY, June 4th. We are in the process of compiling all the
information and need to stay on task. Your help is greatly appreciated.
Kick-Off the Inventory Next week is the beginning of the
inventories in 2 of the 6 communities. This event is to provide publicity for
the work that you and the volunteers will be completing. The more informational
outlets that are developed from these kick-offs, the better.
Attached is
the itinerary that we will be following in each community. Please review this
document as it provides insight into who you should invite, and answers to
possible questions media or other interested parties could ask.
Inventory Resident Letters The Rochester letters have been
stamped, sealed and are in the process of being delivered. If your community
does not receive the letters in time for the kick-off, we will make special
arrangements for the initial inventory on kick-off day. Hutchinson and
Hibbing letters should be out during the first half of next week.
New Team Member We would like to spot-light Emily Hanson this
week. She is a senior at the University of Minnesota the area of Urban Forestry.
Besides working with Chad in the TRE nursery, she also spends time
in the lab with the rest of the project team. You will see her fabulous work in
the training manual, as she was responsible for many of the photos and design
layout. We are very lucky to have Miss Emily and hope that you will enjoy
meeting her as well!
